Nyx Crushong (he/him, they/them) is a dynamic facilitator specializing in the topics of sexuality, gender identity, mental health, and substance use. Nyx holds an A.S. from HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College and a B.A. from Millersville University of Pennsylvania in Psychology, as well as an M.Ed. in Human Sexuality Studies from Widener University.
For over 15 years, Nyx honed his skills as an educator for adult learners of diverse backgrounds through experiences in workplace and educational settings. Their workplace experiences include supporting older adults through computer-based work training, and guiding cohabitating adults with disabilities, as well as onboarding new employees in retail, administrative, and academic places of employment. As an undergraduate student, Nyx was a tutor and a leader. He spent over a year designing and presenting custom lectures and activities focused on LGBTQIA+ education for undergraduate students in south central rural Pennsylvania, while organizing volunteering efforts for the YWCA, Free Mom Hugs, and nearby Pride groups, to expand outreach and support. Their specialization in human sexuality as a graduate student further expanded their skills to include prepare and execute curricula built on evidence-based practices. Practical experience co-teaching and holding guest lectures for undergraduates in different regions of Pennsylvania helped prepare Nyx to be an equity-minded educator of sexuality and other sensitive topics in virtual and in-person settings.
Nyx is dedicated to creating culturally relevant content that balances the introduction of new concepts with familiar knowledge. His approach engages learners through storytelling, open discussions, group activities, media, and the use of educational technology. Nyx is particularly passionate about reducing stigma and promoting understanding, empathy, and acceptance of oneself and others.
